Our volunteer program is an integral part of the Tourism Nanaimo team, designed to enhance the visitor experience and support the delivery of exceptional services. This program recruits, trains, and engages community members who are passionate about sharing the beauty and culture of Nanaimo with our visitors. They support special events, meetings and conferences, and front line visitor services when needed.
Recruitment for our ambassadors is year round, and we’re incredibly proud of this program, that bring passionate community members to the forefront of sharing Nanaimo with all walks of life.

Chuck is an innovative Senior Executive and Municipal Entrepreneur with proven leadership in sales and marketing, operations, business development, government relations, HR management, and finance.
Over the past 15 years in venue management, Chuck has excelled on the municipal client side as Deputy/Interim CAO and General Manager of Recreation, Facilities and Culture in Penticton BC and on the contract management side as Regional General Manager of Operations for the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo in Fort McMurray AB.
As General Manager of the VICC since June 2017, he has led its team successfully in reducing the City’s annual investment in the VICC, while concurrently increasing its return on investment in the form of economic impact. Through his tenure at the Conference Centre, $1.4 million of unused budget funds have been returned to the City, while delivering more than $57 million in economic impact throughout the City.
Over the past 30 years managing and operating large scale venues and businesses in the recreation and tourism industries, Chuck has been an integral member of various travel, tourism and economic development associations and organizations provincially in Canada and internationally with the USA and Europe.
While in Nanaimo he has been very involved as a Director, Member or Supporter with Tourism Nanaimo, Tourism Vancouver Island, Downtown Nanaimo Business Association, Vancouver Island Economic Alliance, the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce and other committees or work groups. With studies in Germany and Ontario, Chuck holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Linguistics from Wilfrid Laurier University.
