  • With three main spots for mountain biking, you can get your fill of casual cross-country, fast downhill singletrack, boardwalks, bridges, jumps and more.
DOUMONT TRAILS – in the foothills of Mount Benson, the Doumont area boasts more than 60 mountain and downhill trails ranging from east to double black diamond. This biker’s playground is considered some of the best mountain biking on the island.
  • WESTWOOD LAKE – Warm up with a 6km loop around the lake then take one of the 9 connected trails, including Nanaimo’s first authorized mountain bike trail – Legalize it! These trails close to the mountain offer a good climb and ride.
  • The OUTER BYPASS – This series of single-track and gravel roads links Westwood and Doumont, opening up the option for an epic day of riding.

Mountain biking not your thing? The Stevie Smith bike park at Beban Park is an exceptional BMX pump track created in tribute to a fallen Canadian World Cup winner. BMXers love to show off their abilities on the twists and turns of this high-energy track. Beginners are also encouraged to come and develop their skills on the track.

Prefer cycling on the pavement? The Parkway and E&N trails both offer paved multi-use trails that traverse the length of the city. Recently added dedicated cycle lanes in the downtown core also link to the E&N and other existing trails.
