Vancouver Island is known for its world class Pinot Noir, so its little surprise Nanaimo has two fantastic wineries of its own. Nanaimo’s mild climate is ideal for growing grapes and each of the community’s vineyards produces a collection of delightful wines.

Chateau Wolff Estate

Chateau Wolff Estate is a respected boutique winery located beneath the slopes of Mt. Benson. The family-owned operation uses traditional old-world methods of making wine, which includes aging the wine in French oak barrels. The result of these methods is aromatic, small batch wines with a rich and distinct flavour.

Chateau Wolff Estate primarily grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, as well as Viognier, Bacchus, and Siegerrebe grapes. Using these grapes from the family’s five-acre vineyard, as well as grapes from other select B.C. vineyards, Chateau Wolff produces rich Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, white blend, and Syrah wines—among other specialty varieties.

The Chateau Wolff tasting room is open for weekend afternoons from March through August, always ready to introduce guests to their new favourite wine. The current owners, Matt and Natalie Riga, have been successfully running Chateau Wolff Estate since 2014.

Millstone Estate Winery

Millstone Estate Winery is a quaint, family-owned vineyard within the Millstone River Valley. Using their 6 acres of land, the family grows and harvests a medley of wine grapes including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Gewürztraminer, and Ortega varieties.

Millstone Estate Winery has a beautiful patio, which guests are encouraged to enjoy during a tasting. It is a splendid destination to spend a weekend afternoon, enjoying sunshine and conversation with loves ones. The winery also hosts several events throughout the year, blending quality Nanaimo wines with food and live music.

While Millstone Estate Winery is best recognized for their wine, the estate also sells organic farm fresh eggs and fresh garden vegetables at the vineyard’s farm stand.
