Nanaimo Art Gallery offers two wheelchair-accessible entries, side by side at 150 Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo. The main gallery space is home to beautiful works of local and regional art as part of the regularly changing exhibitions. It is a lovely space to stroll through and have some quiet moments of reflection. There is also an excellent gift shop that is accessible and worth checking out, stocked with local artists’ work.

The Gallery also offers workshops, art classes and camps. There are a variety of programs and workshops that are open to all ages, and provide an opportunity to learn new skills and experiment with different materials. Whether it’s drawing, painting, illustrating or sculpting, let your imagination run free!

A visit to Nanaimo Art Gallery should definitely be on your to-do list. As mentioned, it is wheelchair accessible and both gallery and education spaces have large accessible bathrooms. Doors have automatic push-plate door openers. The only inaccessible part for wheelchair users is a small staircase in the area between the gallery and the lab, which just means entering and exiting separately from the street.

There is on-street pay parking close by, as well as parking in the nearby Bastion Street parkade, or the parkade on Gordon Street.
