Need help planning? We’ve got your back with the ultimate 2-day itinerary for a getaway that’s all about good vibes and unforgettable moments. Let’s make it happen.

DAY 1
Morning
Start your romantic weekend with a stroll that’s as scenic as it is swoon-worthy. Grab a coffee to go and stroll Nanaimo’s 4 kilometres of harbourfront at your own pace. With views over the Newcastle Channel to the lush provincial park island of Saysutshun, you can watch as yachts, sailing boats and wildlife pass by.
Next up: Commercial Street, where shopping meets charm. Browse Nanaimo’s indie boutiques and thrift stores to snag a one-of-a-kind memento from your trip. Feeling more reflective? Pop into the Nanaimo Museum for a quiet moment to learn and soak in the city’s rich history. Either way, this stop is all about uncovering Nanaimo’s unique vibe.
Lunch
Time to refuel! Swing by one of downtown Nanaimo’s casual hotspots, like Bar Luna, where you can savour the vibrant flavours of Mexico all served up in one of Nanaimo’s most historic and charming buildings. Talk about dinner with a side of history!
Afternoon
RELAAAAX and treat yourselves to the ultimate couple’s spa experience in Nanaimo. Opt for side-by-side Nanaimo Bar pedicures at House of Kiyo (yes, it’s as sweet as it sounds) or indulge in a “Time for Two” couple’s massage at Breze Salon and Spa (pure bliss guaranteed!).
Looking for something a little more adventurous? Refresh and rejuvenate at Island Sauna’s lakeside location. Switch between the cozy heat of the wooden sauna, the invigorating chill of the cold plunge, and fireside relaxation that’ll have you feeling brand-new.
Who says self-care can’t be an adventure?
Evening
Set the mood with a romantic meal at Embers Wine and Charcuterie Cellar, where you can share an array of artisanal meats, cheeses, and seafood in a cozy, intimate setting. 🧀🍷 Feeling the vibe? Keep date night alive with live music at The Queens or The Nanaimo Bar, because nothing pairs better with good food than great tunes. 🎶✨
Looking for something a little more off the beaten path? Take a scenic drive to Cedar, in Nanaimo’s south end, and treat yourselves to an unforgettable dining experience at the Mahle House. Known for its high-quality menu and charming ambiance, it’s a long-standing local favourite that’s perfect for a special night out.

DAY 2
Morning
Start your day off right with a walk through one of Nanaimo’s stunning parks. Bowen Park, just a few minutes from downtown, is the perfect escape when you need a little nature to clear your head. Follow the trails to the Millstone River and waterfall, which are especially impressive in the winter and spring.
Got a car? Head up to Pipers Lagoon Park in north Nanaimo for views that’ll make your jaw drop (just be ready for some rock scrambling if you’re brave enough when the tide’s high). Not feeling that adventurous? Take a chill stroll down Departure Bay’s waterfront promenade, the views are still unbeatable, no sweat.
Brunch
Head back into town and fuel up with a late-morning brunch that’ll have you feeling like royalty. Grab one of those mouthwatering sweet or savoury crepes at Ironworks Café and Creperie, and don’t forget to share a quirky coffee or tea flight with your partner (because who doesn’t love a little creative sipping?).
Late Morning/Afternoon
We are incredibly lucky on Vancouver Island to have a resident population of sea life including Orca whales, sea lions and seals that are present in the local waters year-round. An off-season visit is the perfect opportunity to head out on a wildlife tour to respectfully view these graceful creatures in their natural habitat. Hop onto one of Vancouver Island Whale Watch’s tour from the harbourfront and experience these majestic creatures up close in their natural habitat. Trust us, it’s an unforgettable experience.
OR
For the thrill-seeking couples, how about a tandem bungee jump or primal swing at Wildplay Adventure Park? Get your adrenaline pumping as you whoosh through the air together! it’s not for the faint of heart, but it’ll definitely bring you closer! (Note: Wildplay reopens for the season on Feb 15)
Dinner
All that fresh air is bound to work up an appetite! Settle down with a game, a pint and a pizza in front of the roaring fire at White Sails Brewing, or experience the unique flavours of the Korean fusion dishes at Horang.
As the day winds down, pack up those unforgettable memories from your coastal escape… or maybe stay for another night?
