Dine About Mid Island is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the culinary diversity of the mid-Island region through our annual food festival. One of the most out-of-this-world performances of the season lands in Nanaimo this January as the Victoria Symphony takes the stage with The Planets – Symphony in Space, presented with the support of the Vancouver Island Symphony. Prepare to blast off on a symphonic journey through space, sound, and imagination. Under the baton of conductor Sean O'Loughlin, audiences will travel across the cosmos through iconic orchestral works and legendary film scores. The program features celestial highlights from Gustav Holst’s The Planets, alongside beloved themes from Star Wars, Star Trek, and Apollo 13, blending classical masterpieces with cinematic favourites. From the awe-inspiring opening of Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra to the sweeping drama of John Williams’ unforgettable film music, The Planets – Symphony in Space promises an immersive concert experience that will delight classical music lovers, film score fans, and curious explorers alike.
