April 5 @ 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Get ready for a musical adventure like no other! The Vancouver Island Symphony’s Family Series continues on April 5th with M is for Music, a fun and engaging introduction to the symphony, perfect for school-age children and their families. The music adventure starts at 3 pm at The Port Theatre.
Led by conductor Calvin Dyck and featuring guest artist Shauna Johannesen, M is for Music follows Sarah T. Murdoch, a young girl convinced that the orchestra is missing something—perhaps jellyfish? Maybe dinosaurs? But as she embarks on an unexpected journey, she discovers that music itself can be the greatest adventure of all.
This lively and interactive performance explores the big questions: What is music for? Where does it come from? And is fancy-schmancy orchestra music really for everyone? Through humor, curiosity, and a touch of mischief, Sarah learns that music is full of surprises—and that it belongs to all of us.
“If any of you are looking for an amazing concert for school-age children, M is for Music is the show for you. With a feisty young girl as the protagonist, it takes the audience on a journey to the heart of music-making—emotion—while also exploring the capacity of the creative spirit to emerge in the most unlikely of ways.” – Jodi Proznick, Music Arts Collective
Join us for this one-day-only event and experience the joy, wonder, and excitement of live symphonic music!
