Cultivate Performing Arts Festival
Arts & EntertainmentCommunityFestivals
July 1 @ 8:00 am – July 9 @ 10:00 pm
Celebrating theatre, music & art over nine days amidst the natural wonders of the island. The Gabriola Arts Council is proud to present a festival that reflects the essence of Gabriola. Nine days, 21 events, 1 workshop, an art show, a temporary installation display, a night market, and local food providers joining in the fun with Cultivate specials July 1-9th.
This year, the show is presented in an a la carte format to allow people to choose the shows they wish to attend. Shows are at 2pm and 7pm each day at locations across the island with a 10am and 12pm exception on July 9th.
Highlight of the festival is a performance by Vancouver singer/songwriter, Frazey Ford (founding member of the Be Good Tanyas), on Sunday, July 9th. Frazey will play on the Reservoir Stage at the Gabriola Commons.
The festival is eclectic, with family, youth, and free community events featuring performances such as an evening concert by the 90s/2000s garage inspired Space Disco Band from Nanaimo that will follow a free day of music and interactive play at the Commons. We are pleased to welcome the Vancouver Tap Society with special guest, Jesse Sawyers, for a performance in the round. Canada Day evening will be filled with the mad Latin beats of Rumba Calzada. We also welcome the sharp wit of Sheila Norgate’s Old Dog New Tricks; Nanaimo drummer Graham Villette and his funky jazz outfit, Organized Crime; even an award winning facilitator, Deborah Williams with her inclusive and supportive storytelling workshop called The Flame.
