Boating and Fishing Fun in Nanaimo

Nanaimo’s long shoreline and km of ocean access make it a dream for boating and fishing enthusiasts and beginners alike. With scenic protected bays and quick access to the open waters of the Georgia Straight, options are endless for touring, wildlife watching and those looking for the big catch.

Boat tours and fishing charters are available through several local businesses – listed below. Salmon fishing is an almost year-round activity in Nanaimo with the first runs of Chinook starting as early as March and continuing well into the fall with Coho still around as late as January.

Prefer freshwater fishing? Salmon can also be found along Nanaimo River in the fall, while several Nanaimo lakes are stocked regularly with trout.

If you are arriving in Nanaimo on your own vessel, moorage is available at the Nanaimo Port Authority’s Visiting Vessel Pier, Saysutshun, The Newcastle Marina, Stones Marina, and the Nanaimo Yacht Club.
