What to Pack for Your Nanaimo Vacation
Wondering what to pack for your trip to Nanaimo? Fortunately, planning is easy all year round, thanks to the mild Nanaimo climate. As a vacation destination, Nanaimo is one of the easiest places in Canada to pack for, temperature-wise. A couple layers will get you through almost any day here, and heavy winter clothes are seldom required.
A good rain jacket will serve you well through Nanaimo's coldest and wettest months, November to February. The ideal jacket for this season is of medium thickness, complemented by a sweater underneath for your heaviest layer. Nylon clothing will keep you driest, but wool also works well for light rain. Cotton or denim jackets, on the other hand, are notorious for soaking up the rain.
By early April, it stays warm enough through the night in Nanaimo that you can go out anytime without your thickest layers. You'll usually be able to get away with shorts by early May, and occasional heat waves will make beach clothes a great asset by early June.
Summer heat comes early in Nanaimo, but isn't always dependable until the first or second week of July. After that, most days are hot and dry, with a light breeze off the ocean, through late August. Summers on Vancouver Island often extend into October, and you'll find yourself in a t-shirt and shorts for much of this season.
By late October you'll want that rain jacket again, but you probably won't need a winter layer underneath just yet.
And don't forget to pack for all your outdoor adventures in the Nanaimo area. Nanaimo's climate may be mild, but its landscape has all the vitality and ruggedness of a Rocky Mountain setting. We suggest bringing good hiking boots, a backpack, and a water bottle if you plan to check out any of the area's beautiful wilderness spots on your Nanaimo vacation.
