What's New in Tourism

As tourism takes off in Nanaimo new attractions are opening all the time. Nanaimo's beautiful natural setting, bordered by Mount Benson and the Strait of Georgia, makes it an ideal city for outdoor activities. Two of the area's newest tourist draws make full use of Nanaimo's great west coast location, and promise a memorable and unique experience for residents and visitors alike.

The Bungy Zone at Nanaimo River has long been one of Nanaimo's premier outdoor attractions, and a new multi-purpose redesign is making it even more popular. The new park, called WildPlay at the Bungy Zone, combines the ever-popular 140 foot high bungy jump and rope swing with a tree-to-tree adventure park, outdoor volleyball courts, and a sports cafe. The tree-to-tree park is a challenging but completely safe aerial climbing and swinging course covering several acres of Douglas Fir forest that can be completed in two and a half hours.

Nanaimo's new waterfront attraction can lead to an entire day of fun and sightseeing within easy walking distance of downtown. A fleet of three "pickle boats" provide ferry service between Maffeo Sutton Park and Newcastle Island, as well as historical tours of the Nanaimo waterfront. The pickle boats are 10-15 person covered ferries, brought to Nanaimo from Victoria by the Nanaimo Harbour Ferry Company.
