RANDOM ACTS An intimate “Studio on stage” experience! November 18th – 20th Featuring- Anna Lyman Jazz Quartet, The Living Room Play, Pippa Williams & Starlight Reverie, Josh Gellman Band, Confessions of a Wannabe Rockstar, J. Douglas Dodd & Haley Breedlove, and The Gruff FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 29th 2008; Nanaimo, BC. The Port Theatre is proud to present the second set in our new performance series - “Random Acts”. It showcases B.C. Coastal performing artists (musicians, dancers, actors, storytellers, poets, writers). Each event starts with one art form and then switches artistic gears to a very different performer; hence the word- “random”. Audience seating is in an intimate “Studio setting” on stage. The ˝ hour Lunchtime performances are FREE – bring your lunch! The 1 ˝ hour evening performance tickets are a mere $15 making it an interesting yet very affordable night out. The line up for November in our Random Acts series starts on Tuesday November 18th at 7:30pm with the Anna Lyman Jazz Quartet. Anna will spice up your evening with her hot Latin sound featuring original Salsa, Bolero, Bossa, and Samba compositions, with bluenotes in a spunky new style “Anna Lyman has a voice akin to melted chocolate” The Harbour City Star. The opening act will be The Living Room Play performed by Morton and Ellen Paul. On Wednesday, November 19th at 12:15pm our Random Acts FREE lunchtime performance will feature Vancouver Island Symphony oboist, Pippa Williams. Be prepared to be swept away by Starlight Reverie performing passionate Gipsy Romances, Airs and Dances. Starlight Reverie is Marjorie Cullern on violin, Peter Leclerc on guitar and Allannah Dow on cello. The 7:30pm performance on November 19th will be the Josh Gellman Band featuring some original music described as funky, jazz influenced and danceable! Opening for Josh will be Eliza Gardiner & Nicole Busby in Confessions of a Wannabe Rock Star. November 20th at 12:15 pm bring you bag lunch and be prepared to enjoy this FREE concert by J. Douglas Dodd & Haley Breedlove. Doug, a composer, arranger and pianist, will perform original compositions on piano. Country music sweetheart and Vancouver Island native Haley Breedlove will be with be back with us after recording her second CD in Nashville. On November 20th at 7:30pm the final performance in our Random Acts series will be The Gruff, filtering numerous folk traditions though the sieve of modern experience to create a truly unique sound. From old-time to country; from bluegrass to good old rock ‘n’ roll; these young songwriters harmonize, sing and shout songs of joy, sorrow, and everything in between; with astounding energy and passion.
